This Can't Be Spam... or Can It? A Warning!

phishing scamsThis isn't spam is it? It sounds so legit. I'd better act quickly! This poor woman lost a loved one... (I wonder which one, since that part happens to be blank) and this money needs to get to charity! My goodness! I must help her right away!

This is legit, right? Don't you all agree? Here's this poor woman's plea of desperation...

I am Mrs. Sarah Grant, my deposited the sum of 7.5 Million Pounds with a Bank before he died. Presently, I'm suffering from esophageal cancer, Please Stand-in as the beneficiary and collect the Funds from the Bank to finance Charity Organizations. If interested, reply to: shgrant56@sify.com

OK. This message is really a PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT. For anyone reading this who hasn't figured it out. The paragraph above is from a spammer, who is trying to spamtake advantage of anyone gullible enough to believe this. I know that many of us frequently make fun of these low-lifes, (as I did above) but the truth is, many people are still falling for these schemes. We know they are, or the schemes would not still be in circulation.

Please. If you receive an e-mail from a stranger, DO NOT respond to them! Once you respond, they'll never leave you alone. As a matter of fact, you really shouldn't even open the e-mail. It may contain a computer virus.

Be sure to ALWAYS have anti-virus software installed on your computer (and keep it up-to-date), and have it scanning your incoming e-mail as well. There are many FREE programs available out there. I personally have AVG installed on both my laptop and my desktop computers. (Although I'm considering switching to PC Tools) It's free. But the free versions only scan for viruses. They don't remove them if you get one. So you may want to pay to upgrade to an anti-virus program that fully protects your computer system.gavel

Please, don't click on spam, and/or phishing scams... According to Wikipedia, the definition of a Phishing Scam is "the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication". Basically, phishing scams are scams to steal your identity and/or your money.

The copy of the e-mail I've included in this message may very well be a phishing scam instead of just the usual annoying spam. But you wouldn't find this out until you responded to the message... thus giving them verification that you are the owner of the e-mail address they spammed. Once they know there's someone who is gullible enough to respond... I'm sorry to sound so harsh, but that's how they think... they'll never leave you alone. They'll use many e-mail addresses that have been routed through many servers, with the origination point most likely coming from another country.

I really hope this helps someone... anyone... to avoid these scams and schemes.

South Daytona Real Estate Sales History, 2000-2009 (Year-to-Date)

For South Daytona real estate buyers: I believe you'll appreciate this information, which will help you determine the value of your next potential home, and how much to offer and/or invest, whether it's a house, townhouse, duplex or condo. The following chart contains data from the Daytona Beach REALTOR® Association, and shows the total sales-to-date for the city of South Daytona. (As of July 1)

For my east Volusia county year-to-date real estate reports, South Daytona is the 5th city I've blogged so far, and just as all the other cities so far, 2009 is showing an increase in the number of properties sold in South Daytona, over 2008. To be exact, so far, 2009 shows 39 more homes sold, over last year. We'll continue to watch these numbers throughout the year, and hope that South Daytona real estate sales continue to improve!

Brief synopsis for South Daytona real estate: For the city of South Daytona, the years 2003, 2004, & 2005, showed the highest number of real estate sales so far for this decade. But the biggest difference in the South Daytona real estate sales, from the real estate statistics in other east Volusia counties from 2000-2009, is the lack of a huge drop in sales, in one particular year. Ironically, much different than the other city reports is the fact that just last year, 2008 showed the least amount of sales for this decade. But in similarity to the other cities, thankfully, so far this year, the South Daytona real estate market has shown a relatively significant increase in the number of sales (2009). If the real estate market for South Daytona, for 2009, continues at this rate, by year's end, the real estate market sales for this city will be near the same number of sales as it was in 2006, and 2002.

cakeIt's that time again... time for a REALTOR® to show another aspect of their personality. So here I am, to throw my hat into the ring on yet another Speechless Sunday. And as usual, I'm unable to be "speechless" =P  But as I share this week's photo with you, as usual I will draw the line at any type of description, or discussion regarding the photo itself. But I want to preclude my photo with a little statement about my personal thoughts about photos and any type of art.

Most of the photos we see here on Wordless Wednesday and Speechless Sunday seem to be of a floral or family nature. I've shared these same types of photos, myself.

But when it comes to art, I personally have a penchant for strong lines... like architecture. And I love color... so I have an abundance of sunset-type photos. And when you mix strong lines and color into one photo, I'm in love! ;-)  But I frequently use these within my regular blog posts. So when it comes to our Wordless Wednesday and Speechless Sunday blogs, I want to share photos that I wouldn't normally use it a regular blog post, but I've often already used them. But perhaps when it was within a blog post, your focus wasn't on the photo itself. Perhaps you didn't stop and wonder what appealed to me about that photo, and/or why I even posted it in the first place. LOL.

I guess what I driving at is, when I look at anything of an artistic nature, I like to speculate on why the artist was drawn to that medium, or to that subject, and as I've already stated, I love anything with strong lines. Now I'm not a huge fan of photos of people, unless there's something about the shot that grabs my attention and makes me ponder what they might have been thinking; especially if there seems to be a strong emotion, or an undercurrent of something more than you see when you just scratch the surface. So while I love things that are beautiful, I also love things that are unique.

So far, I've been using photos that I've taken because they caught my eye at one time or another. I'm by no means, a professional photographer. But I am an artist. (In addition to being a REALTOR®. I guess we all can wear many hats.) I guess that's why I have a strange perspective. My husband says artists are weird... go ahead. Let him have it. I'll make sure he gets the messages! (*muwa ha ha haaaa*)

OK, so I could go on and on, but I'll stop here, and I look forward to your insightful perspectives and comments. Go for it! Bring it on! This is by no means a "deep" photo... or is it? Obviously there was something in it that appealed to me. Does anything appeal to you? I know. I know. It's just a cake... or is it?

As you can see, 2009 is showing an increase in the number of properties sold in Daytona Beach Shores, over 2008. To be exact, so far, 2009 shows 33 more homes sold, over last year. We'll continue to watch these numbers throughout the year, and hope that Daytona Beach Shores real estate sales continue to improve! So far, each city I've researched has shown continued improvement this year.

Brief synopsis for Daytona Beach Shores real estate: For the city of Daytona Beach Shores, from 2004 to 2005, the number of real estate sales leapt upward, showing a completely even amount of sales for those two, most productive years. Then in 2006, theDaytona Beach Shores real estate market took a more than significant drop, showing the number of sales for that year to be less than half the amount of the two preceding years! In 2007 and 2008, the number of sales continued to drop in small increments. Thankfully, so far this year, the Daytona Beach Shores real estate market has shown a relatively significant increase in the number of sales, with the only down side being that if the real estate market for Daytona Beach Shores, for 2009, continues at this rate, by year's end, the real estate market for this city will be approximately the sames as it was in 2002.

Ponce Inlet Real Estate Sales History, 2000-2009 (Year-to-Date)

For Ponce Inlet real estate buyers: I believe you'll appreciate this information, which will help you determine the value of your next potential home, and how much to offer and/or invest, whether it's a house, townhouse, duplex or condo. The following chart contains data from the Daytona Beach REALTOR® Association, and shows the total sales-to-date for the city of Ponce Inlet. (As of July 1)

As you can see, 2009 is showing an increase in the number of properties sold in Ponce Inlet, over 2008. To be exact, so far, 2009 shows 11 more homes sold, over last year. We'll continue to watch these numbers throughout the year, and hope that Ponce Inlet real estate sales continue to improve! So far, each city I've researched has shown continued improvement this year.

Brief synopsis for Ponce Inlet real estate: For the city of Ponce Inlet, from 2003 to 2004, the number of real estate sales leapt upward, with 2004 being by far, the most productive year! 2005 took a relatively significant drop in Ponce Inlet real estate sales, with 2006 dropping even more, then even more of a drop in 2007! But 2008 showed a bit of improvement, and thankfully, 2009 has shown an even greater sales increase. The only down side now is that while 2008 & 2009 have shown improvement in the real estate market, these totals are well below my starting years for ths report, which as you see, began as far back as the year 2000.
