I recently posted a blog about a house I sold last week, that was in the worst condition I had ever seen. I also mentioned in that post that the listing agent for that house pretty much acted like he didn't want to sell the 
house. It was the worst transaction I've ever had.
Well, a little while ago I was just reading a couple of recent real estate blog posts by Broker Bryant titled "Does that 50 Cents Have to Be on the HUD?" and "Increase Property Showings by Treatng Your Peers with Respect". In writing this post, I was only going to reference these three posts, but then I also read one by Elizabeth Nieves titled F.S.B.O. does not stand for "material Facts Should Be Optional".
So what do all these seemingly typical real estate blog posts have in common? I mean, every one of these posts was just another story about REALTOR® experiences. But I happened to notice one common element in all these posts. Well, actually it was a missing common element. This missing element was sometimes missing from an listing agent, as in my post. In Elizabeth's post, the missing element was missing from certain real estate sellers. And in Broker Bryant's posts, it was missing from a selling agent. So what was this missing element? Very simply put, it was COMMON SENSE! What the heck has happened to everyone's common sense? In order to understand my perspective, you'll need to read the referenced posts. But in the harsh light that exposes the loss of much-needed common sense, I thought we should take a 
moment to mourn it's loss.
So shall we right now take a moment of silence, to mourn the loss of our old friend "Common Sense". If anyone has knowledge of any living relatives of Common Sense, would you mind contacting them? We could really use their assistance.

Lisa - I am a firm believer that most have either common sense or book smarts. Unfortunately MOST many people in this day and age just lack common sense.

"Common Sense" is my favorite oxymoron.............if every there was a contradiction in terms........someone forgot the "UN" in front!
You said a mouth full. Too many times common sense is missing.
Lisa, what are you smoking there in FL? Tee hee. The hard thing about 'common' or 'uncommon' sense is that we all have our own perception of what it is. Ethics and common courtesy and pride many times are as rare as a diamond mine in FL.
Although I'm going to disagree with Katrina up there - some people have BOTH common sense AND book smarts, and frankly, some have NEITHER - I will agree with Susie...it is a frustrating thing when people have different ideas of what is sensible.
BTW, I've had those strange experiences with agents who seemed like they didn't want to sell their stinky old REO too. Just the oddest thing.
The problem with common sense is that it can't be taught. You either have it or you don't.
I think most of the time common sense gets lost and forgotten...maybe this was a wake up call.
I believe that my grandparents had it right:
Grandad always said "That guy doesn't have the sense that God gave a mule!" and
Grandmother said "That person couldnt pour water out of a boot with directions on the bottom!"
Common sense has long been lost or in some instances has not been used. What a shame. Thank you ma'am for the post.
Seems like common sense is lost in our nation lately, I hope we as you put: collectively can find it!
Lisa: Common sense is indeed missing! I can add many more stories to what you have already collected, but that won't bring it back. It was a freak occurence this year when my brother turned out to be my most reasonable client.
Hi Lisa, You common sense is something I was blessed with. I'm not and educated man but I have common sense out the ying yang!!! And the reality is that common sense is necessary to get along in this world.

If I may chime in with my humble opinion...I think common sense has been lost to the concepts of 'rights' and 'privileges' and 'choice'. Let me explain what I mean.
Common sense is based on the idea that there is an up and a down...a black and a white...a right and a wrong. It has nothing to do with MY personal opinion...OR what is best for ME. It is NOt SUBJECTIVE.
In our world...we have lost focus of that because we feel that we have the right to subject everything to the test of "What is in this for ME?" The lens is out of focus. The perspective is wrong. A selfish person is rarely a person with good common sense. IMHO! GBU!!
I hear you Lisa. Another one I like is the privacy law that a company sticks close to and will not budge from. As in calling your family's cell phone carrier with every piece of information except a pin number that was issued three years ago, and having "customer service" refuse to speak to you about your own account. "You'll have to come in to the store." Common sense, indeed.
Not a day goes by that evidence of the loss of common sense is not presented on AR. SO LONG, CS!
When I was 10, my wise old grandmother told me that "common sense isn't common." Of course, she was referring to something that I did that indicated a lack of common sense, and being the young rebel that I was, I decided to develop common sense. That would show her. Unfortunately, the rest of the world didn't have my wise old grandmother to challenge them, so I'm one of the few with common sense. Maybe that's why I like Mr Spock so much. LOL
